How much to tip local movers?

Moving is stressful on your physical health, especially the part where you have to disassemble all of your furniture and pack up all of your belongings, carrying them out of the door and onto the moving truck. But this is something that the house movers have to do all the time. Yes, they are getting paid, but sometimes it is not enough for all the manpower they put in the entire process.

One way of showing gratitude to your small movers is by tipping them. You do not have to necessarily tip them, as in it is not mandatory. However, it will help them out and show them how much you appreciate their help in moving. At the end of the entire process, you have to think to yourself whether you are satisfied with their service or not.

You can also keep a few pointers that will help you decide whether you should tip the house movers or not, such as:

  • Did they arrive on time?

  • Were they nice, friendly, and respectful, or did they have an off-putting attitude?

  • Were they professional from the moment they stepped into your house?

  • Did they treat your belonging with professionalism, and did they avoid causing any property damage?

How much to tip the movers?

You could give your house movers a bigger tip if they did an outstanding job, especially if they had to work under tough conditions like narrow hallways and long flights of stairs. Standard tipping is $4-$5 per person. A half-day moving tip can amount to $20 per person, 8 hours move can be $40 per person, and 12 hours or more will require to allot $50 to $60 per person.

But remember, you do not have to necessarily tip them. If only you feel they have done an extraordinary job, do you need to? The movers work in a service industry, so it is just typical behavior to tip them the way you do with waiters and waitresses.
